The Osage Indians are originally of Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma. They were first found by French Explorers around 1673. They are known for trading, hunting, gardening and searching for food. They hunted deer, bear, and bison. The men would do the hunting and the women would do the butchering and preparation for cooking. The women also gathered plants and with some of the extra food they had they’d trade it with other Indians and Europeans. Men wore scalp locks, kinda like a mohawk with your head completely shaved. You could tell .a mans tribe by his scalp lock. The men wore clothes consisting of leggings, deerskin and moccasins. In the cold weather they wore buffalo or deerskin robes. They also wore tattoos and beaded jewelry. The women wore the same pretty much except they also wore dresses had long hair, wore belts and perfumes. These people left us with clothes and introduced us to animal skin rugs and clothes. The Osages were well known for trading their products with other tribes, Europeans and Americans but then the US Government started taking over their land in 1808 causing the Osages to move to Missouri. The Osages signed a treaty but later another treaty came along saying that the Osages had to give up all their land. They then moved into a reservation but had to keep moving to other reservations because America started growing. They made longhouses. They also left a lot of arrowheads. Something i thought was cool was how the Quapaw and Osage Indian divided into 2 groups the Earth people and he Sky people, the sky people were in charge of spiritual things and the earth people, earth things.
