1541 Ferninidad De Soto comes across the Mississippi River. there he made boats, and crossed into the region now known as the new madrid. in 1542 he dies.
Louis Joliet, a native of Canada, joined Father Marquette at the Jesuit mission on the Straits of Mackinaw, and with five other Frenchmen and a simple
outfit, the daring explorers, on the 17th of May, I673, set out on their voyage to rediscover the great river.
132 years after De Soto- Marquette and co passed the great river and the Indians and ended up in Mississippi.
1682 La Salle claims and names the land he came upon while traveling down the Illinois and Mississippi River, he names it Louis Xiv which is now Louisiana
Some years later, forts and colonies were found it New Orleans etc, all by french settlers who wanted gold and silver.
1820 Missouri Compromise was made
